National Custody Seminar

All change for custody – National Seminar will tackle this year’s big topics

Pre-charge bail and mental health are expected to be among the hot topics for debate at this year’s National Custody Seminar & Exhibition, which will be held at the De Vere Hotel, Daventry, 11 & 12 September 2018.

Delegates will hear from a range of speakers, the Police Federation of England and Wales’ National Custody Forum and lead representatives. This annual event has developed an excellent reputation for delivering quality, relevant content aimed at those working in and around the custody environment.

Among the matters likely to be the subject of debate are:

• Changes to PACE arising from the 2017 Policing & Crime Act, including pre-charge bail

• The response to the Home Secretary’s Independent Review of Deaths and Serious Incidents in Police Custody

• The expansion of digital technology in the Criminal Justice System – its’ impact on police custody, investigation, victims and suspects

• Provisions for detainees suffering from mental health crises, including recent changes to the Mental Health Act affecting police powers under s136

• Safeguarding the rights of suspects and victims
